Profile

In 1993, after going through different bands, high school buddies from New York Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca formed NADA SURF. Soon after Ira Elliot joined the band and in 1996 released their first album “High/Low” with Rick Ocasek (famous for his work with Weezer’s Blue Album and Green Album) as the producer. They were in the spotlight anticipated of being the next Weezer but the road ahead wasn’t that easy for them.
They went through some twists and turns since the release of the second album, but with their high quality of music and energetic and honest activities, they finally started to regain popularity in the U.S. with their third and fourth album “Let Go” and “The Weight Is a Gift.”

In 2008, the long-awaited fifth album “Lucky” was released.
The album consists of music that can only be created by those who’s seen both the light and dark, and the bitterness of life. A contradicting perspective of irony and pessimism, yet standing face to face with the realities of life. The loving and melancholic songs with touching melodies give us strong hope.

In this latest album, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie appears as guest vocal, George Marino as mastering engineer, known for works with Coldplay, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, etc., and John Goodmanson, known for his engineering for Death Cab for Cutie, is credited as producer.

The Japanese edition of the album consists of four rare bonus tracks: the acoustic live version of “Always Love” from MySpace Live, the rearranged acoustic version of “Whose Authority” and “I Like What You Say” from the bonus disc of the limited U.S. edition, “I Wanna Take You Home” with the former member of The Lemonheads, Juliana Hatfield.

The very best of U.S. rock bands will be appearing for the first time at NANO-MUGEN FES. 2009. Don’t miss out on the Nada Surf experience
