MANIC STREET PREACHERS, an alternative rock band, was formed in Blackwood, Wales in 1988 by four childhood buddies. The combination of powerful guitar tunes and outspoken lyrics about politics, literature, and philosophy with their glam-rock appearance soon established a strong following. In addition to their music and appearance, the band’s audacious remarks and performances attracted attention to accommodate the release of their debut album “Generation Terrorist” in 1991.
In February 1995, the day before they were to go on the U.S. tour, Richey Edwards, the band’s lyricist and rhythm guitarist suddenly and mysteriously disappeared. He is yet to be found and in November 2008, he has been declared legally dead. The three overcame the crisis and with the issue of their fourth album being a huge success, they have become Britain’s national icon. Celebrating the band’s 20th anniversary this year, they released their ninth album “Journal For Plague Lovers,” which features excerpts from Richey’s unpublished works.
This will be their eighth tour to Japan, two years since their previous appearance in “Summer Sonic 2007.”
