In 1994, the glory days of guitar rock, BEN FOLDS formed a “three-piece, guitarless, piano-rock band” called the Ben Folds Five. The way he played the piano like a percussion instrument set off an unique piano-rock sound and won a rave review in which some called “Nirvana meets Billy Joel.” Great reviews spread through a foreign record store chain in Japan and quickly became a smash hit, being featured in a Japanese TV series. After releasing three albums with the band, Ben Folds turned to solo works. His refined songwriting was enthusiastically praised by all his fans. His sense of humor in songwriting, a gifted talent in melody-making is like watching a short film. His works are highly acclaimed from hard-core rock fans to pop-music fans, and also from great musicians like Billy Joel and Elton John.
The number-one piano man of pop collaborated with a Japanese artist, Angela Aki, and attracted Japanese audience this year.
